IPMI Overview

IPMI Logo

Important Notice: IPMI functionality is available only on selected older servers built with iLO-based management interfaces. Our current server offerings are designed without IPMI, relying instead on newer system management technologies.

IPMI (Intelligent Platform Management Interface) is a powerful tool for "out-of-band" server management. It allows you to control your server's hardware directly and remotely, independent of the operating system.

This means you can manage your server even if it's powered off, unresponsive, or has no OS installed. Key features include:

  • Power cycling (on, off, reset)
  • Monitoring hardware health (temperatures, fan speeds, voltages)
  • Accessing a remote KVM (Keyboard, Video, Mouse) console
  • Mounting virtual media (like an OS installation ISO)

VPN Required: For security, our IPMI interfaces are not exposed to the public internet. You must first connect to our secure IPMI VPN to access your server's IPMI.

This is the first step to using IPMI. Our detailed guide explains how to set up the VPN connection on your local machine (Windows, macOS, or Linux). It covers the required VPN server address, credentials, firewall rules, and the necessary route commands to ensure you can reach the IPMI network.
