Creating Locations & Nodes

Before you can create game servers, you need to register your physical host server with Pterodactyl. First you create a Location as a geographic group, then a Node — your physical server — which is assigned to that location.

Step 1: Create a Location

A Location is a logical grouping for your Nodes — typically based on geography (e.g. Germany, US East). It helps with organisation and can be used for automatic server assignment.

1.Log in to your Pterodactyl panel with an administrator account
2.Navigate to the Admin Area by clicking the wrench icon ⚙ in the upper-right corner
3.Click Locations in the sidebar
4.Click Create New
5.Enter a short code (e.g. de) and a descriptive name (e.g. Germany), then save

Step 2: Create and Configure a Node

Create the Node in the Panel

1.Navigate to Nodes in the Admin Area and click Create New
2.Fill in the details: name, location, FQDN, and the available RAM and disk capacity
3.Switch to the Configuration tab and click Generate Token — Wings will establish the connection automatically
4.A green heart icon on the Nodes page confirms a successful connection between Wings and the panel

Step 3: Assign IP Addresses and Ports

In the final step, tell Pterodactyl which IP addresses and ports may be used for game servers.

1.Open your newly created node in the panel
2.Click on the Allocation tab
3.Enter your server's IP address and the desired port range — e.g. 25565-25575 for Minecraft servers
4.Click Submit — your node is now fully configured and ready to host game servers
