Windows Rescue Mode

The Windows Rescue Mode is a special troubleshooting environment you can boot your server into via the PowerPanel. It gives you full access to your server's drives and registry to repair a Windows installation that is inaccessible or unable to start normally.

How to Access the Rescue Mode

Start the Windows Rescue Mode in your PowerPanel under Hardware → Server Management. The system can take 20–30 minutes to fully load — you will receive an email once it is ready.

Connection details: Connect via a VNC client on port 5900 — not via Remote Desktop (RDP). The password you set for the rescue session must be exactly 8 characters long.

Common Use Cases

Reset Administrator password
Recover access to a server with a lost or forgotten Administrator password using the NTPW Edit utility.
Back up data
Copy important files from a non-bootable Windows installation to a network share using robocopy.
Disable the firewall
Edit the registry to disable a misconfigured Windows Firewall that is blocking server access.
Disable a broken service
Prevent a faulty Windows service from starting by setting its Start value in the registry to Disabled.
Fix registry issues
Edit the Windows Registry directly to resolve configuration problems that prevent the OS from starting.
Manual intervention required
The rescue system does not repair your server automatically — all changes require your direct input.
