Monitoring S.M.A.R.T. on Windows

Windows provides built-in basic functions for quick tests. For detailed analysis and automated alerts, however, we recommend using specialized tools.

1

Quick Test via Command Prompt (CMD)

This is the fastest way to get an initial assessment without additional software:

Check S.M.A.R.T. status
wmic diskdrive get status,model

Status: OK

The drive is classified as healthy by the system. No action is currently required.

Status: Pred Fail

Warning: A failure is imminent. Back up your data immediately and request a drive replacement.

Detailed Analysis (Recommended)

For continuous monitoring and email alerts, CrystalDiskInfo is the best choice for Windows servers.

Software & Status

Use the portable version of CrystalDiskInfo. Blue indicates "Good", Yellow means "Caution" (early wear), and Red indicates a critical hardware defect.

Email Alerts

Configure your SMTP settings under Options > Alert Features. The tool will then automatically notify you via email of critical status changes.

Monitoring via CrystalDiskInfo is significantly more reliable than the Windows Event Viewer, as it evaluates deeper hardware metrics.

Is "Pred Fail" showing?

If a negative diagnosis is reported, we will replace the affected drive free of charge.
