Monitoring Disk Health with S.M.A.R.T.

S.M.A.R.T. allows modern storage drives to monitor their health and report imminent hardware failures.

Why Monitoring Matters

Monitoring these values is a crucial part of proactive server maintenance. S.M.A.R.T. gives you an early warning to back up your data and request a drive replacement before a critical hardware failure occurs.

Key Indicators

  • Overall Health Status: A simple "Passed" or "Failed" assessment from the drive.
  • Reallocated Sectors Count: Number of bad sectors replaced by spare ones.
  • Percentage Used (NVMe): Estimate of the drive's rated lifespan consumed.
  • Power-On Hours: The total time the drive has been powered on.

"Proactive action saves downtime. As soon as S.M.A.R.T. shows critical values, the drive should be replaced as part of our free hardware service."
