Installing an OS
This guide shows how to reinstall the operating system on your Server4You server via the PowerPanel – AlmaLinux, Debian, Rocky Linux, Ubuntu or, on Dedicated Servers, Windows Server. The reinstallation erases all data on the server.
Important Notice Before Starting
Backup Your Data: Triggering an OS installation will wipe all data on all drives of the server. Create a complete backup before you proceed.
Time Estimate: Depending on the chosen template, it can take up to 1 hour for the system to process the request and an additional 1–2 hours to complete the installation. First, all drives are formatted so that the new operating system is installed on clean disks.
Step-by-Step Installation Guide
Log in to your PowerPanel and navigate to Hardware → Server Management. Click the Actions button next to your server and select Install Operating System.
Enter the Restore Code sent to your email. Then, select your desired OS template (e.g., Ubuntu, Debian or AlmaLinux; Windows Server is available on Dedicated Servers only), choose the language, and set a new password for the root or Administrator user.
Review your settings and click Next. After the final confirmation, your server will automatically reboot and the installation process will begin.
The installation is irreversible once confirmed. Your server will be unavailable until the process is finished.
